Child’s play – five fun and budget friendly ways to entertain the family during half term

It is always a good idea to start planning how to entertain the family.  Cinema trips, eating out and day trips all add up…  But there are plenty of things and ways to enjoy half term without it costing you an arm and a leg. Here are our five top budget friendly activities to get you started…it’s all child’s play!

1. Sign up for a National Trust membership
National Trust memberships are valid for one or two adults and up to five children, with prices starting from only £6.50 a month. You get access to hundreds of unforgettable places up and down the country from Stately halls, historic castles, and woodland walks there’s something for the whole family to enjoy. The National Trust also runs special events for children in half term sometimes, check their website for more details.

2. Movie Marathon
Half term is the perfect time chill out, and what better way to do this than a movie marathon at home. Pick a movie franchise such as Harry Potter or Toy Story, grab some blankets, make some popcorn, and snuggle down for the afternoon.

3. Visit a free museum
Museums can take you back in time, into outer space, help you discover new planets, or immerse yourself in a new culture. The UK is full of world renowned museums, with many of them offering free access to exhibitions year-round. From the Science Museum in London, the National Football Museum in Manchester or the Tate in Liverpool. There is a museum for everybody and a fun and exciting way for your children to continue learning over the holidays.

4. Get cycling

Following Great Britain’s success in the Olympics and Tour de France, cycling has become more and more popular. There are thousands of cycle routes up and down the country, and it’s a fantastic way for the family to get outside, exercise, and explore your local area.

5. Bake off

If the weather isn’t on your side this half term, why not try and get your Mary Berry on in the kitchen. This could get messy, but this is a great way to entertain the children and teach them new skills…and in the end, you’ll (hopefully) have a delicious cake to enjoy!
