From Monday, 11th September to Friday, 15th September, Pension Awareness Week takes place across the UK. The week is designed to encourage people to think about their pension and their long-term financial wellbeing.

Whether you’re just starting out in your career or already planning for retirement, Pension Awareness Week is an opportunity to learn more about how pensions work and where you can go for reliable information.

Why pensions matter

Pensions are a way of saving for later life, giving you an income when you retire. There are different types of pensions available, including workplace pensions (set up by your employer), personal pensions, and the State Pension. Everyone’s circumstances will be different, so your approach will depend on your own situation.

What happens during Pension Awareness Week?

Throughout the week, a number of organisations and campaign groups will be sharing resources to help people:

  • Understand how pensions work.
  • Learn more about the State Pension and workplace pensions.
  • Explore useful questions to ask about their retirement planning.
  • Find out where to go for impartial guidance and support.

Where to find support

If you’d like to learn more during Pension Awareness Week, there are several places you can find information:

  • Pension Awareness website – the official hub for the campaign, with events, articles and resources.
  • MoneyHelper – a free and impartial service backed by the government, which has clear guidance on pensions, savings and retirement.
  • Your workplace or pension provider – many will be supporting the week with resources or Q&A sessions.

Planning for later life can feel like a big task, but Pension Awareness Week is designed to make pensions feel more approachable and to signpost useful sources of information. Taking time to learn more today could help you feel more confident about your future.
